As the Crow Flies

I made this quilt for the Queensland Quilters 2020 Challenge,

I painted and pieced the sky; then appliqued the mountains and tree trunks. The tree trunks are painted and thread-painted. I painted the gum leaves with a sponge, using five different colors – greens and yellow.

The water is painted and quilted.

The crow is screen printed. I created a digital thermofax screen.

It was a lot of fun to make and I really like the end result.

It was awarded Judges Choice. Exciting!

Lyn’s Quilt – Tabula Rasa

Lyn’s first art quilt – Tabula Rasa

This quilt started with a plain white piece of fabric. It was inspired by an incident that upset me.

I dyed the fabric first, using Procion dyes; then added Shiva Paintsticks, screen printing, foiling, painted web.

The three circles represent the influences that I see affecting us in  our lives – Family first, then Friends.

These circles are applique, painted and then machine embroidered.

The third circle is Depression – Is there any way out? I think we suffer from depression when the other two influences in our lives are out of balance.

There is a screen-printed line from Simon and Garfunkel that is difficult to see –

Hello darkness my old friend, I’ve come to talk with you again

I then quilted it with overlapping and intersecting cirlces.

I like the result – am very happy with this quilt. Making it helped me deal with the problem.
